The Engineering Project Leader (EPL) will be responsible for leading the overall execution of projects within the Cab Electronics Engineering organization of Company Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). In this role you will work closely with program managers and engineering teams to execute projects and new product development programs, which supply automation and control products and systems for railway customers around the globe.Essential Responsibilities The Engineering Project Leader will define project requirements, contract deliverables, project plans and schedule, and will direct the efforts of an engineering team to execute the project. In this role you will also be responsible for coordinating system engineering, development, test and validation activities, and may need to interface directly with customers. The Engineering Project Leader will be accountable for planning, analysis and reporting of Engineering programs to management.In addition, you will:Work closely with Program Managers, System Engineers, HW & SW Engineers, and cross-functional teams to plan and drive the execution of engineering activities Develop, communicate, and maintain a detailed project plan, work breakdown structure (WBS), and schedule Develop project activity list and identify resource requirements Be responsible for ensuring that engineering development efforts are completed per cost and schedule and meet the defined requirements and commitments Develop and monitor project execution costs and report out on the financial status of the execution Define and manage mitigation strategies for technical issues and risks Maintain, communicate, and update the status of action items for a given development effort, and ensure that action items are closed out appropriately Prepare status reports and report project status to stake holders and upper management, as necessary Work with the program manager and engineering teams to ensure adherence to the tollgate process Provide ongoing guidance to engineering project teams to assure proper application and compliance of project management tools and processes Prepare, schedule and budget estimations and technical proposals for new project bidsQualifications/Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a Technical field from an accredited university or college Minimum of 5 years of experience in the Computer or Electronics industry Minimum of 5 years of experience in Project Management (including planning, analysis, and cost control)Desired Characteristics Ability to plan / schedule projects (multiple, simultaneous, and varying complexity) to build, deploy, and test control systems for Locomotive and Railway Automation applications Railroad industry experience Experience with Locomotive systems and interfaces Experience in managing integration projects with sub-contractors Experience working with and managing international teams Proven track record of successful project delivery Strong interpersonal and leadership skills (Ability to guide and influence others) Strong technical aptitude including applicable engineering tools and systems Familiar with Electronics / Software Development lifecycles and processes Ability to prioritize and respond dynamically to a changing environment Good written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated process orientation in approach to work Proficient in MS Project planning / scheduling software Strong understanding of project accounting and finance Understanding of estimation and budgeting processes Experience with the design, operation, and evaluation of control and/or communication systems Experience in system engineering, specification generation, and manufacturing documentation Experience working with schedules within an Earned Value System (Integrated Cost and Schedule)
